Miracle on the West side

It's a new season. The misery and disappointment of the previous one can be replaced by new found hope and expectations of victory, or at least that's what I started the evening thinking. Alas, things don't always go according to plan and with two of our stalwarts, Lappy & Liz, opening up for us, it didn't seem that they were on the same page as me. The two of them looked to be in some sort of personal race to see who could get swept
the quickest. A swift glance at the beads showed that our brave new season was opening up with us losing the first 9 racks played. Fabulous stuff. Should've played Weasly, I thought. At least he usually wins a couple of racks. Not many more, admittedly, but that would've been something. Liz then won a rack to a rather large cheer from the assembled rabble but got closed out shortly after, losing 7-1. Lap saw that Liz wasn't playing fair by actually winning a rack so he decided at 0-6 down in a race to 7 to change his approach & actually win a few.

Things looked pretty miserable as the opposition put up John Macarthur. I didn't want to put up Weasler seeing as that hadn't really worked out the last time (see an earlier post entitled "Weasly lays an egg against Macarthur") and we threw up a rather surpried Button, who had made it clear earlier that he was only really there to drink. Unfortunately for him, the numbers worked out that he was our best hope in that situation, though that thinking seemed questionable as he proceeded to lose the first six racks. Meanwhile, Mr Jessen had completed an amazing comeback, winning 7 racks in a row to beat Mike Thomas. "Super stuff" slurred Liz who was pounding down her 4th Amstel since her loss. After a long huddle between Skipper & Slipper & Swell it was decided to put up Steve blind (not a blind Steve, ho-ho-ho-ho-ho that's so lame). I walked up to Spreadsheet Askham to tell him this & that if he put his new female D up against a pro, instead of himself, that he would a rather large
Paul chose to embrace pussydom & put up the D. Steve played rather well, and despite one unexpected tough 9 ball make by the blond, won every other rack played & the match, which brought us back to Mr Brewer. He who looked into the void down 1-6 in a race to 7, showed balls of a steely granite-like substance & making tons of good shots, won 6 racks in a row to give us a remarkably surprising win.

Wonderful way to start boyz & girl.
