Recollections & insight to the Thursday night boyz & girl

And then there were none

We had to play on a Friday again cuz Cornerdam had a huge party during our alotted time slot on Thurs. It's not personal, it's just business I guess. All seemed ok 'til the phone calls & emails started on Fri:

Dog - "I can't make it; we're moving offices tonight"
Matt - "Don't think I'll be there by 6:15. I'll be there for the second one but not sure I want to play"
Lap - "Do you need me? I can be late for D&D if you do"
Liz - "Do we have enough players cuz I'm not 100%" or words similar..

WTF? Mike I love you.

Anyway, everyone not called Tischler did show up, which was super-duper. Lap & Liz started off & not too long afterwards Lap was leaving for D&D having lost 7-0. "Nothing worked" he said before trundling off to the big game.Weasly went up 3rd leaving me or Matty for the last spot. In match number 2 however, something unusual was brewing. Liz was nearing the finishing post, ahead of her opponent. Could it be? Was it possible? YYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. Laya took her first scalp of the season. You can't keep a good girl down, eh? She'd had a few beers too methinks. Coincidence?

Where there seemed no hope, suddenly we had a chance of winning this match. We'd need Weasler & the 4th match to ensure victory but things were looking rosier. They put up 4th and a nice young girl came over and said she was up, that she had just started playing and don't put the A up cuz she was going to lose regardless. Wow. Who wants to play that? Not Matt who when asked if he wanted to said no. That left the big bad captain to beat up on the poor harmless female. While he was doing that, watching his opponent give up & just plow into the wrong ball rather than attempt a kick, the large German came through with a W. That left the grim reaper to finish burying the now miserable girly, which he did with little enjoyment.

Another victory. Yummy.

Better late than never

a Bulldog W that is, not the blog entry. I'd been wondering what could possibly motivate our boy to grab a victory. It seems that not having to hand Lap 10 bucks is our answer. Whatever works. So congratulations are in order for the second week in a row. That only leaves one person on the schneid now and they're not called Dog, Lap, Mike, Matt or Rog.

Back to Thursday. Liz went up first getting Jace Rafter & the Dog got Jen Madara. BTR went to the bar and got a Shiraz. As the time ticked by, it ocurred to me that we still only had 3 people. Lap was kind enough to email his absence, but what about Matt & Mike. Thinking harder Matt had spoken the previous week about his workload prior to going to Seattle. Maybe what he meant was he wouldn't be here tonight. Yeah, that could be it. What about Weasler? Let's call him. "Hey Mike". "Hey Rog. I'm in AC. I guess I should've told you". Click. That might've been nice. Oh well, there are only 3. One of Liz or Dog will have to double up.

Dog finished his match victorious, soundly dispatching Jen Madara. He didn't seem to keen on doubling up & charged out for a smoke. I put myself up against Heath Gill (aka Wally). Laya lost shortly after and seemed even less interested in doubling up than the Dog. Something about "if I ever have to play on those tables again it'll be too soon". Seeing as she would've been on exactly the same table against exactly the same player, I managed to guilt Dog into playing again. He didn't want to ruin the nice feeling he had after enjoying his first win in what seemed forever (since the Giants won the superbowl? Mets won the world series? England won the world cup?) but he shouldn't have worried. If you can feel good after one W, you feel even better after 2. Plus Skipper slithered past Heath so we won again.

Yippee. We're 5-2. And only one person on the team remains unsatisfied.
