The NYPT experience

Recollections & insight to the Thursday night boyz & girl

3.23.2007

It's official

Skipper has lost it. He is on:

After last night's ass-reaming by yet another almost totally new team, I lost it. The evening started well enough with Steve & Mike being there for the start as well as Jeff & Rog. Jeff went up first & got matched up against their strongest player, which was annoying as it's hard to find a good matchup for Steve among the sea of low handicaps. They then put up a D+ & Mike matched up against him. In the time it might take to have a quick s**t & a shower, Weasler lost 8-1. It's not like he played bad; his opponent made a 9 on the break, ran a rack, combo'd a 9 in & was given ball in hand on the 9 in the final rack by Mike after he made a really nice 8 ball shot. Mike was almost on tilt but managed to stay reasonably calm. A lesson in self control that should have been taken note of by Skipper, who had to match himself up against the next D+ they put up.

We were in a 7 game hole, we really had to win all 3 matches & Dog was in a battle in his match. Skipper was starting to close the spot when Dog lost & we had to put Slipper up cuz he was the only player left. That meant we'd already lost the match before Steve had hit a ball. Numerically we couldn't catch them. This fact did little to help Skippers digestive process, and the sequence of events that followed:

- his opponent got ball in hand & combod the 9 in
- his opponent made the 9 on the break
- he had a tough cut on the 9 & hung it, smashing the 9 into the pocket in a fit of rage before his opponent had a chance to get to the table. This put his opponent on the hill
- his opponent broke & made the 9.

Well, what can you say.....

Actually anything other than the shortest handshake in human history followed by a lot of f'ing & blinding & dropping of pool cases would've been better. But alas, the boy was beyond reason & was left to fume alone.

Meanwhile, a contact lens-less Slipper was beating up on a C+ and skipper managed to write the score down wrongly as 10-9 Steve, when the guy only won 8 racks. Can he get anything right?

Tilt. Absolute 100% sky tilt. Therapy is scheduled for Tuesday.

BTW Liz has won her first two macthes in the pro event she's playing in. Way to go girl.

Masquerade

This is not Slipper. This is not a hacker. This is BTR attempting to find out why Slipper is having posting issues. Let's see what happens when I publish this. The proof will be in the viewing....

Slipper is high maintenance?

I've just invited Slipper to join us for the THIRD time. You'd figure a man of his obvious high intelligence would've been able to surmount the hurdle of the initial blog sign up process. Let's see if the 3rd time's a charm....

Fancy that

just as we were gathering some momentum, we ran into Mr Fancy Pants. Not a team name that leaves opponents quivering in fear one might feel.... Perhaps a team name that Weasler would feel comfortable with.... Turns out that this team has been around for ages and actually recruited Slipper for a season in the dim & distant past. Where he was giving every opponent the kitchen sink. Not like tonight where he was giving his opponent 9 on 11 but that's for later. Still, we're younger & better looking so we should win this matchup, right?

Throwing up the Dog first (see image above), the proud posessor of a 2 game winning streak, seemed obvious to start & we partnered him with Laya in the other match. Things seemed to be going well, Liz fueled by an intake of Irish coffee (with Jamesons no less) & Dog sipping his so'co'lime on the rocks. Liz won by 3 racks & good old Jeffrey seemed to be ready to snatch his third straight when it just didn't happen. Annoyingly enough.

Skipper was busy dismantling his D+, getting it to 6-6 more by luck than skill while Slipper watched his opponent s**t in the 9 in the first rack, which meant he had to win 11 in a row. Things were now looking decidedly gloomier. And Liz had another Irish cofee.

Slipper did win 11 in a row but a miserable losing performance by Pachebat, including what should have been a sportsmanship violation as he hurled his cue onto the table after his opponent s**t in a 9 ball of his own to get on the hill, left the match tied.

Liz was chomping at the bit to play the tie-breaker & as everyone else seemed to be running out the door, it made tons of sense. Skipper did try & stay but after he saw Matt reappear, meaning that Liz had a least one body cheering her on, left with the wife to do some chomping of his own at a pre-arranged dinner.

I didn't get any update from Liz later (like she had promised) so I called her. All I could make out was how she was about to kill herself, which I assume means we didn't emerge victorious.

I guess that means the re-appearance of Weasly won't ruin our winning streak cuz we don't have one.

A turnaround in the air?

It's been a while since the last post. That's due to a multitude of reasons, not least of which is Lap's decision that he doesn't want to play Thursdays any more. I understand where he's coming from but that doesn't make it any easier to feel good about him leaving. I hope things change over time pal.

Anyway, over the last two weeks a couple of nicer things have happened. We've won 2 matches in a row. While Weasler was out of the country. Interesting. Definitely food for thought.

The Dog got off the shnide 2 weeks ago and now has a winning streak of 2. Slipper, getting a rare opportunity to play cuz we hadn't dug ourselves a 40 ft deep hole in the first 2 matches, also won his first of the season. Liz continues to be our steadiest player despite that fact that her own blog must absorb much time previously dedicated to quality practice time. And Skipper got his nose above .500 too.

And Weasler is out of the country. Fascinating.

Whatever we've got going, let's keep it up. At least for another week. After that, Weasly will not be out of the country.
